Fiery Physical Game 14 May 2009

East Campbelltown Womens A Grade Rugby League played a fiery physical game against Newtown Jetettes at the historic grounds at Henson Park Marrickville beating their opponents by a very generous score of 44-10. Six tries in the first half with 4 conversions gave the girls a 32-0 score at half time.

The game featured mainly the forwards taking the lead and forcing their way through a less experienced side. The bigger girls in the team managed to let the other side know they meant business by literally flinging them in every direction. Powerful forward Patricia Uri also did damage to the opposition, striding through their defense line and landing one of them on their back for about 5 minutes. Fortunately, Newtown were able to bring her back to her feet. No one expected the game to feature the forwards, something you rarely see in a game of this calibre.

East Campbelltown were able to let many first time try scorers etch their names into the record books as having scored a try. Nine tries were scored in total by East Campbelltown with 4 conversions. East Campbelltown standout forward So'o Mariner managed to score her first ever try and was named Player of the Match.

Newtown gave a gutsy performance and all credit to their players, many who are first timers to the game coming from soccer backgrounds and some who have never played before. They reformed and tightened up their defense in the second half crediting themselves with 2 tries and a conversion.
