CAMPBELLTOWN Eagles will play newcomers Penrith Brothers in the first game of the Bundaberg Red Cup season on March 14 at 4.30pm at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.
Formerly known as the Jim Beam Cup, the competition will feature 10 teams including the West Australian Reds.
Other changes to the competition include the addition of two new teams.
One is a joint venture between the Sydney Bulls and NRL club the Bulldogs and the other is Penrith Brothers.
Eagles' development and coaching co-ordinator Daniel Draper said many of last season's players had returned to the club and a recruitment drive had been successful in attracting some fresh faces.
The Eagles have youth on their side this season.
``We have recruited a lot of young talent and they are from the local area,'' Draper said. ``The average age of the team is about 21.
``It's the age group we are targeting to give loca
juniors opportunity to play at a higher level.
``The coaching staff of Scott Davey, Jason Small and Mick Cronin have been working hard to get the team ready for round one.''
NSW Rugby League general manager Geoff Carr said the Bundaberg Red Cup would offer families an affordable way to see some of the best rugby league players and teams the state had to offer.
Some of last year's key players for the Eagles, Luke James, Samuel Hoare, Troy Gibbs, Ryan Owen and Stephen Harding, will play again this season.
The Eagles had a trial game against Corrimal Cougars last Friday night and were in top form, running in eight tries to one.
