Campbelltown Eagles Womans Game 24 June 2009

East Campbelltown Womens team remain unbeaten in the 8th Round of the Sydney Metro Womens Rugby League Competition. Rain poured as East Campbelltown took on Newtown Jetettes at Henson Park at Marrickville. The might of the Eaglettes was too strong for a fiesty Newtown side. Four tries in all with 2 successful conversions gave Eaglettes a 20-6 win

A much improved Newtown side came up with their only try and conversion in the second half of the game. Their defence was well rehearsed to take on the bigger size of the Campbelltown forwards.

From kick off, Campbelltown dominated the game with 2 quick tries to Chelsea Peyroux and Thea Purukamu at the beginning of the first half. A slippery ball and a slippery field gave everyone the chance to show how they could handle the conditionsl in the wet weather. Normally games are called off but it was a relief for Campbelltown to get out there and throw the ball around after a long break. Second half saw 2 more tries by East Campbelltown to Jamie Ngapeka and Sharlene Neemia. Player of the match went to Chelsea Peyroux for an outstanding try and excellent running around the defence.

Score: 20-6 Tries Chelsea Peyroux 1, Jamie Ngapeka 1, Thea Purukamu 1, Emily Ah Lam 1. Conversions: Renee Gloss 2

In between the last game and this game, 7 girls from East Campbelltown were selected to play in the Womens Nationals Title held in Runaway Bay QLD. Sydney City secured runner up position while the other Sydney Residents team took 3rd place. More recently, 5 girls from East Campbelltown were selected for the NSW Womens Origin team to play Queensland next month at a one off State of Origin match in Sydney.

Sydney Residents Team: Farlane Wineera, Thea Purukamu, Samantha Brincat.
